The famous naupaka kuahiwi half flower – the naupaka of the mountains – is the partner plant of the naupaka kahakai – the naupaka by the seashore! Two lovers, Naupaka and Kaui were separated, one lived up in the mountains, the other by the water, represented by the two half flowers of the mountain and the beach naupaka.
