Frequently Asked Questions

Where will you pick me up?

We offer two pick up areas: Kona (pick-up included in tour price) and Waikoloa (pick-up fee of $10 per person). If your choice is Kona Airport, please be advised that there is an airport tax of 3% of your tour price.

I don’t see a departure date that would work with my schedule, can I still take a tour?

Please do not hesitate to call us directly if this is the case. We may be able to offer you a special tour package depending on your group size or add a tour if necessary.

How much luggage can I bring?

We have very limited space for our tour. Please carefully look at our what to bring tab for information on what we believe to be essential. It can be frustrating to hold a bag of items you never use on your lap during the driving sections. We will stop at our storage unit before the tour departs where you may store items during our trip. You must sign a waiver to store any items in this location. There are security cameras, a digital code to unlock our unit and a padlock that only we are allowed access. We cannot guarantee the safety of your items but we consider it a neccessity to use a facility we believe to offer a high level of security.

What do I need to bring?

Things you should have on your checklist for overnight tours: walking/hiking shoes/boots, flip flops, sunglasses, hat, sunblock, bug spray, camera, towel, toiletries, medication, rain jacket, sleeping bag (if you would like to bring your own), pillow, swimsuit, info for travel insurance, pants, shorts, pajamas, t-shirts, socks, undergarments, backpack or bag, wallet

How are you green?

Hawaii Outdoor Guides offers trips that give our guests a great island experience without driving back and forth between activities. We follow a natural path around the island that uses less fossil fuels then separate activity tours. The water that we offer from Volcanoes National Park is rain water that is sand filtered with pumps powered by solar energy. We constantly look for ways to lessen our impact on the environment. Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places in the world and we want to do our part to keep it that way.

What equipment is used on the tour?

We choose our equipment carefully and buy long lasting, quality products. Our tents are two man tents made by Nemo Equipment and in most cases you have the tent to yourself because we want you to be comfortable. Our sleeping mats are made by Thermarest and are the z-lite mat that combines weight and function perfectly. Our Snorkel equipment is made by U.S. divers and we buy the dive shop quality gear because this is the kind of gear that we would use to snorkel. We offer only the best for our tours.

Do I need to buy Travel insurance?

Please do buy travel insurance before your trip. If you happen to fall or have any problems when you are on our trip you want to be covered. We recommend Travel Guard but there are many reputable travel insurance agencies.
