Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal at Kahaluu in Kailua Kona

It is believed that there are only 1000 seals left! The Hawaiian monk seal is one out of only two endemic mammals in Hawaii and research shows that they have been in the waters around Hawaii for millions of years! This makes them the oldest seal species on the planet. The average seal can get 25 to 30 years old. The seal shown in the picture was spotted at Kahaluu Beach Park in June 2014.
