Humpback whales are still cruising along the Kona waters

Humpback whale cruising along the Kona waters

Whenever you get a chance to fly over Hawaiian waters during the winter and spring months, make sure to be on the lookout for humpback whales. During the rest of the year, the whales are further north where they find more food.

Tips for whale watching:
Be patient, you are observing marine wildlife
Bring binoculars
Drive along a road with unrestricted ocean views
Go on a whale watching cruise
Check out Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site (http://www.nps.gov/puhe/index.htm), which means “hill of the whale” in Hawaiian – it is a very scenic spot to look for humpback whales
