Lava fountains gushing at Halema’uma’u crater lava lake – Video taken during Volcano Tour on April 27th

Lava fountains gushing at Halema’uma’u crater lava lake – Video taken during the Volcano Tour on April 27th, 2015

Since the lava lake in the overlook crater inside Halema’uma’u crater has risen to the rim of the overlook crater / floor of Halema’uma’u crater, visitors and Volcano Tour guests have been able get a direct view of the molten lava lake and it’s spectacular, gushing fountains. The closest overlook is just over 1 mile away from the lava lake but it is one of the few, safe places in the world where guests can experience this natural phenomenon.

The video was taken with an iPhone and no tripod. The lighting conditions for photo and video cameras are extremely challenging: small and fast moving objects at night about 1 mile away! The best viewing experience is live through very good binoculars. One more reason to join our Volcano Tour! Our local expert guides are equipped with high quality binoculars and they can also give you all the background information about what you are actually seeing and why it is so special.
