‘Ukulele

On most of our tours we bring our ‘ukulele with us to bring with it the spirit of the islands of Hawaii. Explanations for the term ‘ukulele vary. Queen Lili’uokalani is credited with the translation of uku as “gift,” and lele as “to come.” The word ukulele would therefore mean “a gift that came.” But the most common explanation translates ‘ukulele to mean “jumping flea.” This refers to the way the fingers of musicians jump around the fingerboard. Playing the ukulele at the beach with coconut palms in the background is one of our favorite ways to end our day. We hope you agree!
