Join Hawaii Outdoor Guides on a tour of Historic Kailua Kona and the picturesque Kona Coast. This guided and fully narrated Tour is your 5 hour journey of the historic town of Kailua Kona and its surrounding coastal areas. Along the way, you’ll discover why the ancient Hawaiian kings settled on the western slopes of the Big Island. There are many historic sites to view along the Kona Coast. As we walk from the Kailua pier we will see the royal Hulihee palace and Hawaii’s oldest stone church called Mokuaikaua. Heading south of Kona we’ll visit a local coffee farm, join a farm tour, and sample world renown gourmet Kona coffee. We will stop at a local lunch spot where guests have the option to purchase food. Big Island Bees will welcome us and let us sample the local honey while learning about their Hawaiian bee farm. On to enjoy views of Kealakekua bay where a famous monument for the British explorer Captain James Cook sits. The Place of Refuge or Pu’uhonua O Honaunau is a highlight for many guests visiting the island and learning about Hawaiian history. Here, guests will be able to walk on royal and sacred grounds that are part of a US National Historical Park and take pictures of Hawaiian temples, Ki’i (tiki statues) and learn about their purpose, history and present day use.
